Reflexology is the study of reflexes. Reflexology therapies are natural therapeutic methods derived on the principle that there are reflexes in the body that map to other parts, glands, and organs of the body. Through the application of pressure on these reflex points Reflexology can help relieve ailments and promote healing.
How can Reflexology help you?
The body has the ability to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of “imbalance” and vital body systems can be blocked, preventing the body from functioning optimally. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body’s natural balance and facilitate healing. For each person, the application and the effect of the therapy are unique. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances and by working on these points, the Reflexology Therapist can release these blockages. Reflexology is one of the safest and least invasive complementary therapeutic practices available.
What Happens During a Reflexology Session?
Your reflexology session is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with yourself and allow your body to rest. You’ll remain fully clothed, removing only your shoes and socks. As you settle into a comfortable position, Marcella will use gentle, purposeful pressure on specific reflex points in your feet.
Each touch is intentional, guided by her training, experience and sensitivity to your individual needs. Some areas may feel more tender than others, but reflexology should never feel overwhelming. Marcella will adjust the pressure to ensure you’re comfortable throughout your treatment.
Many clients describe a deep sense of relaxation, sometimes feeling as though they’ve drifted into that peaceful space between waking and sleeping.
There’s nothing you need to do, achieve or figure out. Simply allow yourself to receive.
How Will I Feel After Reflexology?
Everyone responds differently to reflexology. You may leave feeling lighter, calmer and refreshed. Others experience a sense of deep relaxation and prefer a little quiet time afterwards. There’s no particular sensation you should expect. Your experience is your own.
Give yourself permission to enjoy the feeling without rushing straight back into your busy day.
Does Reflexology Hurt?
Reflexology should be a comfortable and relaxing experience. Certain areas of your feet may feel more sensitive when pressure is applied. This doesn’t necessarily indicate an imbalance or medical condition. Marcella will always work within your comfort level, adjusting her technique and pressure as needed.
And if you’re ticklish? Don’t worry! Reflexology uses a different type of touch than the light brushing sensation that usually causes tickling.
How Many Reflexology Sessions Will I Need?
That depends on what you’re hoping to gain from your sessions. Some people enjoy reflexology as an occasional opportunity to unwind, while others choose regular appointments as part of their personal wellness routine. There is no set number of treatments everyone needs.
Marcella can help you explore a schedule that feels comfortable and appropriate for you, without pressure or unnecessary commitments.
